Some Well-Known Advocates for Mental Health:

Demi Lovato

~ Singer ~

Demi Lovato has been open about her own battles with bipolar disorder, bulimia, and addiction. She has even produced a documentary about mental health called "Beyond Silence," where she shared powerful photos of her recovery from bulimia and her rehab to address substance abuse issues. She said, "It's very important we create conversations, we take away the stigma, and that we stand up for ourselves if we're dealing with the symptoms of a mental illness."

Lauv

~ Singer-Songwriter ~

Lauv, whose real name is Ari Leff, admitted he was "going through a really bad time" when he was diagnosed with depression and OCD. This is what led him to compose songs like "Modern Loneliness." He said he felt "disconnected from the world" and "couldn't be happy" until he began attending therapy later on. In 2019, Lauv launched the non-profit Blue Boy Foundation to help those struggling with mental health like he did.

Lady Gaga

~ Singer-Songwriter ~

In 2016, Lady Gaga revealed she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from when she was raped at the age of 19. She has also said that she has clinical depression and "it's a fight all the time." She admits that, "I have bad days, and I have good days." Her mental health struggles are also what influnced her 2020 album "Chromatica." Lady Gaga has also started the Born This Way Foundation, a nonprofit to support youth struggling with mental health.

Taraji P. Henson

~ Actress ~

Taraji P. Henson revealed that she copes with anxiety and depression by regularly talking to a therapist. She started her own foundation in 2018, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation (named after her father), to help break the stigma around mental health. She said, "Why shouldn't we talk about it? We have to. People are losing their lives in those dark secrets. So, we gotta expose it so people can live freely and be OK with not being OK."
